On February 9, the “1st Conference of the Association of Breast Disease Specialists was held at the Azerbaijan Medical University. After the national anthem was played, the Deputy Director of the Oncology Clinic of the AMU, Associate Professor Nigar Mehdiyeva made an opening speech. She expressed her satisfaction that the 1st Conference of the Association coincided with a very significant historical event - the extraordinary Presidential elections. Congratulating Mr. Ilham Aliyev, who was re-elected as the head of the country by a large majority, on behalf of the participants of the event, she characterized this historical victory as a logical result of the series of victories that ended with the 44-day Patriotic War and the anti-terrorist operation.

In her speech, N. Mehdiyeva spoke about the purpose of the association, its working principles, as well as its role in both the scientific and practical life of the medical field, and noted that this process has been strengthening in recent times: “If we look at world statistics, we will see that every medical specialist is a member of at least one association during his or her working life It happens that it gains certain advantages. Associations allow us to actively participate in mass and directed, as well as individual research, and to formulate relevant legislative norms. All this is not possible without teamwork. The strength of the association comes from the number of its representatives and members. Therefore, the individual voice of each of us is an integral part of a large single voice.

Speaking about the main reasons that laid the foundation for the creation of this association, the oncologist said that it is extremely important to consult an appropriate specialist in a timely manner about breast diseases, including early symptoms of breast cancer: “In our daily practice, we often encounter the problem of delayed referral. That is, it is especially important to conduct wide mass informational events about the importance of early referral. When we say prevention, we initially think about screening. Although employees of the Oncology Clinic of AMU and the National Oncology Center conduct such screenings in the regions, we must admit that this process is fragmented. In this regard, one of the main directions is the development of the legal basis of this screening program and the delivery of proposals and notifications to the relevant legislative bodies.

It was also emphasized that in the future, the training of professional personnel, the expansion of inter-institutional and inter-country relations are among the priority issues facing the association.

After that, Associate Professor of the Oncology Clinic of AMU Hagigat Valiyeva provided the event participants with extensive information on the election of the association's board and department heads, and planning the future activities of the departments.

Associate Professor of the Oncology Clinic of AMU Nasimi Gasimov and Chairman of the Azerbaijan Plastic Surgeons Association, full member of the board of the International Plastic Surgery Association, plastic and reconstructive surgeon, Professor Vagif Galender also spoke at the event, voiced their proposals and wished success to the work of the association.

Then, Associate Professor of the Oncology Clinic of AMU Tamara Guliyeva presented a paper titled "Surgeons from other members of the multidisciplinary team in the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of breast diseases expectations” and Elkhan Kazimov, an employee of the National Oncology Center, gave reports on “Requirements of a multidisciplinary team from surgeons in the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of breast diseases”.

At the conference, held under the motto “We are strong together!”, specialists also conducted a clinical analysis of patients.
